Tesuque Area
Nestled in the foothills of the Sangre de Cristo Mountains, the picturesque, incorporated village of Tesuque enjoys a rural feel (there are still horse properties here) and is only five minutes north of Santa Fe, just beyond Bishop’s Lodge. Known for its valley of lush vegetation and the Tesuque River, as well as hilltop sites with views and traditional Northern New Mexico pinon and juniper, Tesuque attracts artists, professionals, retirees, second home owners, and celebrities looking to hide out. There is a small commercial community consisting of the landmark Tesuque Market, the restaurant El Nido and Shidoni Foundry.
Almost all the communities located in this area have a view of the entire Rio Grande Valley all the way to the Colorado border on a clear day. Small villages are interspersed with newer subdivisions perched on the hills. The secret home of many a celebrity, this area is made up of adobe fixer-uppers and architectural gems. The area includes the 5-star Bishop’s Lodge “Auberge Collection,” Los Caminitos, Vista Redonda, Chupadero, Rio En Medio, Pacheco Canyon and Pueblo Encantado where the world class Four Seasons Resort and Spa “Rancho Encantado” is located.
Tesuque is one of the Santa Fe area’s most quietly enchanting communities—small, historic, tree-shaded, and known for its long-standing artistic and rural character. Just a few miles north of the Santa Fe Plaza, it feels worlds away, thanks to its tucked-away valleys, winding roads, and a landscape that mixes cottonwoods, junipers, and acequia-fed greenery with the surrounding high desert. It has a distinctive personality: refined yet rustic, artistic yet unpretentious, and profoundly tied to both landscape and history. It appeals to those who want a slower, quieter environment with natural beauty, privacy, and a sense of timelessness—while still being only minutes from the cultural heart of Santa Fe.
